Light Therapy

18 Jan 2012
Kyden's first 24 hours with the UV light wasn't bad at all. It's comfortable to him and I'll bet he likes the warmth of the light on his back. Jonathan and Cicily came over this morning to help out so we could catch up on some sleep. We have a follow up appt with the doctor today for Kyden's Jaundice levels. Either way, the Doctor will probably have us keep Kyden on the light at least one more night. He's doing great though. The poor thing was circumcised yesterday, but he took it like a champ. I'm proud of my little man.

So we received some good news today at Kyden's follow up visit with Dr. Greenberg. Typically, the levels of billirubin levels are expected to go up as the baby gets older. Kyden's second day he was at a 11.5 intermediate/high risk; yesterday his level wa at 15.6, but today he is at 15.1 which is great news. The doctor said to have lil Ky (cool rap name) on the light for 12 hours tonight and we're hoping that's the last of the high Jaundice levels in his blood.

Cicily is an amazing person. We are so greatful that she's been so willing and availabe (thanks to a bad economy with no jobs) to help us get adjusted to our new lives. She cooked us dinner tonight, and took care of Kyden while we tried to catch up on some sleep. We love you, Cicily.

Home Sweet Home

Home at last. We were discharged today and got home at about 2:00 p.m. Kjera fed the lad for a little bit, then we decided to take a nap! Too bad it didn't last very long. Kjera is so worried about little Kyden; the smallest peep that comes out of him makes her jump out of bed to go check on him. The little man has a little Jaundice, but we're hoping with all the food he gets today, he'll be well enough tomorrow for his doctor appointment so he won't need a UV light. He lost about a pound in the last couple of days, but he is doing better- latching much better and eating more.
Our poor dog Belle was home without her mama for four days. She was so excited to see us. We're glad our roommates were here for us to let her out to go potty. Thanks you guys.

Kjera was nervous of falling asleep while the baby slept, so thankfully Cicily came over to watch the baby while she napped. I was stuck in line at Smith's filling her perscription while this old lady argued with the poor pharmacist. I was glad to come home to see Kjera napping finally.

Once we woke up, the rest of the Oblads made it over and brought us an incredible Sloppy Joe dinner. It was amazing. I forgot how good sloppy joe's were. Even Kjera the Vegetarian scarfed down a whole one.

Kyden is a lot like his dad....he's a heavy sleeper. Once he goes down, it's hard to get him up. It's been a struggle because he falls asleep everytime Kjera tries to feed him. He's doing a lot better though, so we are glad. Hope all goes well at his doctor visit tomorrow. The poor thing will also be circumcised tomorrow.

He is beautiful. Even his cry is music to my ears because it's good to know that he has strong lungs and can breath on his own. Hope he sleeps ok tonight. He's in his first PJ's and looks like a stud. We love you, Kyden. Thank you Kjera for bringing such an amazing gift into this world. I love you.

Making the world a better place, one baby at a time.

Mike and I fell in love with Kyden right away! We feel so blessed to have him in our family. We are so grateful to our heavenly father for so many of of prayers being answered. We are grateful for each other, and for everyone in our lives. Mike is already an amazing father! I couldn't ask for a better husband, and baby. It is true that there is no greater joy than extending your family. Kyden is healthy and beautiful! I was very surprised from his strength in suction. I can tell that breastfeeding will be difficult in the near future, but it is in a way addicting for me because it is so sweet, and relaxing (thank you dopamine). He fed immediately after birth around 9, then clung on again at 11. We couldn't get him to feed for 6 hours after that because he was so sleepy. Now he's taking the boob like a champ!
I find myself falling asleep as I do simple stuff like writing this post. I'll start by closing my eyes to think then realize that my eyes have been closed for longer than I meant. I feel great other than the "ring of fire" as my nurse put it ;) Definitely very sore! We are so grateful for the staff here. The have helped so much1 There are only 2 other babies here and they have been sleeping in their momma's rooms so the staff have been enjoying Kyden and giving him all the attention he needs since I send him back to the nursery after he feeds. I'm taking total advantage and getting sleep. For the first time I feel rested. I still dose of randomly but I feel so much better! I'm also very grateful for all of the help of our families. Cicily rubbed my legs, and even the top of my feet! That is love right there! I love his little smile. I'm already a sucker for it!

Baby Day

We've packed our bags, fed our dog, cleaned our house and ran the last errand -- We've tried to prepare as best we could and be ready to bring home our baby. It's now time to head to the hospital and have Kjera induced. We are excited and nervous at the same time. Our lives will change so much, but we know it will be for the best (except when we are trying to sleep). Hospital, here we come!

8:40 pm
When we came in Kjera was dilated to a 1 1/2.  We received our first dose of Cytotec (A pill that helps soften the cervix). They will administer another dose at 10 and we will find out if there is any progress. Then again at 2 am. They plan on giving her pitosin tomorrow morning. To be continued..................

McKinsie, and Cicily brought Mike and I a giant sandwich and chips just in time! we ate and played dominoes while watching Hercules. I passed out.

10:00 PM
RN did that oh so fun pelvic exam! >( Lucky me, I have a really high cervix, and the baby's head is in anterior to it! I was dilated to a two. woohoo. They decided to hold of on the next dose of Cytotec (each dose is getting stronger) for an hour since my body is reacting so strongly and giving me contractions 2 minutes apart. Not fun.

 2:45 AM
I woke up screaming! The Cytotec was making me have some awful contractions! I wanted the Epidural "NOW"! That was an odd experience. I wouldn't say it hurt, but it is impossible to not react! It made me jolt a few times. Then that final shock freaked me out! After about 20 minutes I felt like I was in heaven. For the first time I thought "I got this, I can do it" since Epi had got my back ;) he he he

5:23 AM
The baby is facing up so the nurse has to wake me up about every hour to turn me. I guess that will help him turn posterior

6:11 AM
I started to feel the contractions again, as well as the catheter. I pushed the button for the first time for my epidural and now feel really nauseated. I asked the RN for something......I think she forgot...haha

6:30
Water broke, completely dilated. Time to push!

8:11
Cicily (Kjera's sister) is to introduce you all to Kyden James Miranda!! Born at 8:11. He weighs 8 lbs 1 oz. He is 19 and 1/2 inches long! Cute and adorable baby and mom are doing great! More pictures to follow.

I made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

It's cold!

Mr. New Dad

10:30 a.m. They just moved us to our new room, and on the way, Kjera good a little sick and has puked a couple times. She was a little pale for a while and she had a low hematocrit count, but is looking good now. A woman came to draw Kjera's blood to follow up with her Hematocrit count and Cicily got the lady's phone number. Good for you two.We should double date.

Kyden is finally latching on really well and is eating like a champ. Kjera is amazing and is dong really well. After feeding for a little while, they both just passed out and are fast asleep. She is talking with a feeding consultant now and getting tips from her. Hopefully we can eat soon, and we can squeeze a nap in soon.
